Warded to Hannah.
We're still in Switzerland, but I need to talk to you as soon as I get home. Are you working tomorrow evening? If you are, I could come by the hospital and talk to you on your break? If not, would you be able to come over to the house?

Warded Private.
We're getting married! Seeing that word written down makes it so much more real.

Hannah'll be my maid of honour (matron? that's the term if she's married, isn't it?), of course. Lizzie as a bridesmaid, she'd never forgive me otherwise. And Ellie. Should I ask Regan, too?

We're getting married!

Sally Wood -- I like that.

Switzerland is lovely.

Warded Private.
Bags: packed
Lizzie's offered to house-sit and Dog-sit, so I don't have to worry about any of that. I think she just wanted to get away from her roommate for a while.

I'm excited to be going on another trip with Oliver, even if this one is so much shorter than last time. It'll be nice to just get away and not have to think about work or anything.

Warded to Ollie.
So, who should we go as to Montrose's party? Any ideas? Also, I'm really looking forward to the trip!

Warded to Hannah.
You're going to the carnival on Saturday, right? We should meet up there and make the boys cater to our every whim. Yes?

I am officially done with my Christmas shopping. It feels pretty awesome to be done with my shopping ahead of time, instead of scrambling at the last minute to find gifts for people. I even paid extra to have the shops wrap them up for me, so it doesn't look like Dog did it this year.

20. 29 November, 2006 [29 Nov 2011|08:57pm]
We got just a bit of a dusting of snow this evening, and Dog is going crazy over it. I swear, every winter is the same: he freaks out (with joy!) whenever he sees snow, like he's never seen it before and this is an entirely new experience for him. He wouldn't leave me alone until I let him out into the yard to roll around in it.

I've had a family tentatively book me for "the first weekend with real snow" to get pictures of their kids in the snow. Which should be fun and exciting in its own way. I just have to remember that if the kids are as excited about the snow as Dog is, to not mention that comparison. I think the parents might get offended if I compare their kids to my dog?

Ellie, I think you need to have another blues dance for the holiday. They're so much fun!

Warded to Oliver.
So, my parents wanted to know what our plans are for Christmas? Mum also wants to know about what size sweater Bailey wears. She always knitted us new sweaters for Christmas when we were little, so I think she wants to make one for her, though she didn't actually come out and say that.

Warded to Hannah.
You should come over one evening sometime soon. We can drink hot cocoa or tea or something and watch Dog go crazy over the snow. Maybe if the boys agree to be good, we could let them join in, too.

It's hard to say which is more exciting: Halloween today or the championship match next weekend. Okay, I'm lying, the match next weekend is much more exciting! But Halloween tonight is still really exciting. And it really wasn't that hard to turn my "Tornados Cheerleader" costume from last year into a "Magpies Cheerleader" one for this year.

In other news ... I'm starting to forget what my best friend looks like (all completely my fault, I know). She's blonde, I think. Tiny and gorgeous, married to one super-lucky bloke. Hannah, I'm actually not up to my eyeballs in clients and developing pictures and everything, we need some girl time! Are you free anytime this week?

Warded to Friends.
So, I've been doing some thinking about taking this freelance thing and making a business out of it. My brother Nick told me about some business class that's being offered in Diagon, so I'm thinking of taking that, so I at least have some idea of what I'm doing on the business side of things ... unless you want to share Lisa, Mo! (I'm kidding ... unless you actually would.)

But that also means I need to name this thing. Unless I want to be really vain and just call it "Sally Perks Photography" then I kind of need help with, you know ... naming my to-be business.

Unless this is just a really stupid idea and I should go back to trying to find a real job

What do you all think?

This is one of my favourite pictures from a portrait session I did yesterday.

I've been so busy lately, I've actually started to miss the Prophet. At least I generally had regular hours then! I guess word is really starting to get out about my photography, because it feels like all I'm doing lately is meeting with new clients and making arrangements to take their pictures, then doing the photoshoots, developing all the pictures, meeting with them again, etc. I think I'm starting to forget that the world exists outside of my darkroom.

However, now I have some fun pictures to share. All of the below pictures I have full permission to share and use in my advertising, it's part of the contract negotiations these days.

Wave your wand for pictures! [warning, there's a bunch!] )

I'm not sure if I'm more annoyed or impressed with Dog right now. He managed to hide my journal inside a pot inside a cabinet in my kitchen. I didn't even know I had pots in my kitchen. And I've been looking for my journal for weeks and just found it today in the aforementioned pot inside a cabinet.

I think my dog might just be a wizard in disguise. Not only did he know I had pots, but he knew how to open the cabinet, hide the journal inside one of the pots, and close the cabinet to cover up his tracks.

I feel like a crazy dog lady all of a sudden, since I write way too much about my dog in here. I can't help that he's entertaining, though!

Warded to Eddie and Scottie.
So, I know Oliver's birthday is coming up in a few days, and I've been trying to think of a gift for him and I am completely lost. Any suggestions?

I have a very sassy squirrel on my back fence. She's just running back and forth across the top of the fence, then pausing and waving her tail at Dog and driving him absolutely mad as he tries to catch her. I probably shouldn't be laughing so hard at poor Dog, but this might be the funniest thing I've watched him do in ages.

014. 19 May, 2006 [19 May 2011|05:53pm]
I found a couple of boxes of old pictures in the closet, so I decided to go through and look at them and attempt to organize them all, since I think I used to just sort of pile all of my pictures in the boxes with the intent to eventually organize them. And then eventually just hasn't happened yet. (Don't worry, I'm far more organized with my pictures these days!)

Anyway, I found this one:

Spell-o-taped picture! )

It was love at first sight when we met, I think.

Warded to Hannah.
I know you're in Bermuda with your husband, but how about some best-friend time when you get back, MRS. Hopkins?

Warded to Susie.
I'm going to kidnap you one evening soon and take you out to have fun. This is your chance to tell me which day would be best, and "oh, but no evening is really that good" isn't an excuse, I'll just pick one at random and kidnap you then.

012. 25 April, 2006 [25 Apr 2011|06:24pm]
Okay, so we've been back for almost a week already, but I finally developed my pictures from when my boyfriend whisked me away to Greece for my birthday. And I thought I'd share a few to convince everyone else to go there at some point, because it was really beautiful.

Spell-o-taped pictures! )

I've decided that traveling is really fun.

Warded to Eleanor.
Speaking of pictures, I've finally got yours developed, as well. When would be a good time for you to take a look at them?

Warded to Charlotte.
Speaking of pictures! I'm sorry, I think I got distracted there, and we never set up a time for me to get pictures of your wonderful food. Did you still want to do that? When would be good for you?

Warded to Ollie.
I've got quite a few more pictures of you, by the way, and a few of the both of us, but those ones aren't really meant to be shared with the world. They're safely tucked away in my personal stash with a few other pictures I have of you.

And I really did love the surprise. Thank you.

Warded to Oliver.
So, I think I'll be having a house guest for the next few days. My friend Padma, she needs a place to crash for a bit. I just wanted to give you a heads-up that Dog and I won't necessarily be alone at the cottage.

Also, I have kind of a silly question.

Warded to Hannah.
I know you and Wayne are having lots of fun off in New Zealand, so I'm really really not expecting a reply until you get back, but I wanted to keep you in the loop.

It's probably silly and insane but- I've been kind of thinking. About maybe trying to make a living at this freelance thing. It's crazy, right?

I think my favourite part of not having to be at work most every morning is getting to take a longer run with Dog, now that the weather's getting nice again. I love spring, seeing all the flowers blooming all over.

I have here one of the last pictures ever of the lovely MRS HANNAH HOPKINS as a single lady, taken just yesterday:

I think she was thinking of her NOW-HUSBAND when I snapped that picture, just look at that smile on her face.

CONGRATULATIONS, WAYNE AND HANNAH!

So, just so you know, my mum is the sane one in the family. She doesn't believe in arranged marriages. And neither does my dad, for that matter, but my mum's the one who's actually related to Terrence and Emil's dad, so ... there's no chance my mum would try to pull the same kind of thing their parents just did.

She and dad want to have you over for dinner sometime, by the way. I imagine dinner will be full of questions like what your intentions are with me and about your entire life from infancy through now. Then there will probably be a very embarrassing period after dinner when they'll pull out the photo albums and show you my baby pictures.

I told them I'd find out when a good time for you might be?

Warded to T & E.
On a scale of one to ten, how drunk are the two of you, after this morning's Prophet? Also, should I go shopping for black clothes to wear to funerals? Mum is appalled at your parents, if it's worth anything?

I'd almost forgotten what it was like to be between jobs. I was with the Prophet for almost two years, though, it was time for a change anyway. Plus, I've kind of always wanted to do this:

PHOTOGRAPHER FOR HIRE!

If you'd like pictures taken for anything, my schedule is currently very open to taking on any and all freelance photography jobs.

I just wanted to thank you. For being there for me the past two years when I've been difficult and not wanting to talk about the inci--   miscarriage. You're my best friend, and I don't think I appreciate you nearly enough. So, thank you for being there for me even when I didn't think I wanted someone there.

Warded to Patrick.
I found a note from you on the floor amid pieces of what look like paper muffin liners. It seems my dog loved your muffins. Thank you for them and your thought, but I would prefer to let the 18th pass without note.

Warded to Oliver.
Thank you. Again. For finding me and taking care of me and ... not leaving.

I think I might just have the best boss in the world right now.

Warded to Oliver.
So, I just got out of a meeting with my boss. With the season really starting up this weekend, and with several matches each weekend, all the photographers in sports are going to be very busy trying to get pictures of all the matches. And I've just gotten my boss to agree that so long as I'm actually taking pictures (and of players other than just you), I'll be assigned to all the Montrose matches this season. Which basically means that I'm going to be paid to go to all of my boyfriend's quidditch matches, and I won't have to worry about having to miss one for work.

Warded to Morag.
Is the ring absolutely gorgeous? Eee, I'm so excited for you guys!

006. 14 February, 2006 [14 Feb 2011|02:59pm]
A-ha! I swear I've torn the entire cottage apart looking for my journal. And where did I manage to find it? Not in the icebox, though I have found it there before, but buried under piles of stuff on my desk at work. I also found the pair of silver hoops that I thought I'd lost. And this led to people at work once again suggesting I organise this pile of mess that I call a desk. But as long as I can find everything I need eventually, what's the harm?

... oh Merlin, one of the other photographers is dressed up as Cupid and has just walked past, asking if anyone wants to see his bow and arrow. I can't decide yet if I'm amused or horrified, I'm laughing too hard!

"Cupid" aside, I love this holiday. And not just because I got the most lovely vase of flowers ever this morning and have a date with an incredibly wonderful man tonight.

Ward: Hannah
So, I kind of went to Oliver's house this afternoon unannounced. And he was there. With his daughter, Bailey. Han, she is seriously the cutest little toddler in the world. They were having a tea party, and she had him all dressed up, and she was in this princess dress and tiara. And she invited me to join their tea party and brought out a dress and tiara for me, too.

I was doing so well at forgetting, too, but now it's like it's all I can think about and --

Why does he have to have a kid? And one so young, and so cute

I like to think there's very little that's prettier than going for a run in the snow at dusk. I wish I'd thought to bring my camera with me ... if only to get pictures of Dog stopping every few feet and trying to eat the snow on the ground and then staring up at the snow falling from the sky like he's so confused about what's happening.

I have my costume for the Montrose party tomorrow, and I will look quite smashing, if I do say so myself. It's going to be epic fun, because there's just really no way it couldn't be. Han, Morag, I claim both of you for a dance at some point, so you'd better both be there!
